Lionsgate has received permission to release The Hunger Games in China.

The movie has already grossed 620 million worldwide and will now be screened in the Asian market the first half of June.

Lionsgate is anticipating that the Chines will also want to see the Catching Fire sequel, and should also get approval for release into China.

The Hunger Games will be among the first major Hollywood films to be released in China, and they will be able to collect up to 25 percent of the films receipts in China.

In 2010, Avatar was the highest grossing movie in China every.

“The Avengers” came out big on Friday 5/4/12, grossing an estimated $18.7 million from midnight showings across the country to Disney. However, this was not enough to beat up the Hunger Games which brought in 19.7 million! However, they did beat out the Dark Knight which brought in about 18.5 million.  Most likely The Avengers will come in second place with the second most grossing opening weekend ever….behind the Hunger Games.

The same director who directed big hits like “I Am Legend” and “Water for Elephants” will be directing the next Hunger Games Sequel, “Catching Fire”. The choice of Lawrence is a big change from from what experts have been speculating. Lawrence has experience working with big stars like Will Smith and Reese Witherspoon, but none of his films have been of the same magnitude and scope as directing the sequel to The Hunger Games. Lawrence made a name ofr himsel as a director of music videos, where he worked alongside several prominent, high-profile singers. If you can say nothing else about his films, they are attractive visually.

Zac Efron's "The Lucky One" could beat "The Hunger Games" at the box office next weekend. Unless "Think Like a Man, "the movie based on the Steve Harvey book, does it

Zac Efron’s “The Lucky One,” a heart felt romance adapted from author Nicholas Sparks’ novel, looks likely to claim the Number 1 spot at the box office this upcoming weekend. This could knock “The Hunger Games” from the top spot after a reign of nearly four weeks.

“The Hunger Games” has grossed more than $337 million in domestic theaters to date. It is thus far 2012′s top release, far ahead of “Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax,” with $204.5 million so far. However, there are other large blockbusters coming later in the year like “The Hobbit” which could surpass The Hunger Games for 2012.

If “The Lucky One” isn’t lucky enough to dethrone “The Hunger Games,” the honor may go to “Think Like a Man.” If the audience tracking surveys are accurate, each film could gross $20 million or more in its debut, which should be more than enough for the top spot.

“The Lucky One,” in which Zac Efron plays a soldier who appears to be protected by the photograph of a woman he doesn’t know, is appealing to younger women, the tracking surveys suggest. Men will either not attend or only go at gunpoint.

“Think Like a Man,” adapted from Harvey’s bestselling book, “Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man,” is a relationship comedy starring Chris Brown, Kevin Hart and Regina Hall. Its core audience is older African American women, the surveys indicate, but it has broad support from younger black women and a good percentage of men.

After four weeks in theaters, “The Hunger Games” is maintaining its hold on the No. 1 slot at the weekend box office, and earned an additional $21.5 million this weekend.

Not even the 3 Stooges could topple the Hunger Games, although it did come in at a close second, earning $17.1 million for the weekend.

Other films in the top 10 this week include horror flick “The Cabin in the Woods” and “Titanic 3D.” Here’s the full list of the weekend’s box office winners:

2. “The Three Stooges,” $17.1 million

3. “The Cabin in the Woods,” $14.8 million
